Aintree Racecourse, Ormskirk Rd, Liverpool L9 5AS
The Grand National is one of the biggest events in the UK's sporting calendar and has been held annually at Aintree Racecourse outside Liverpool since 1839.
The race is a handicap steeplechase run over 4 miles 514 yards (6.907 km) with 30 jump fences. It is Europe's most valuable jump race, with 2017's winner taking home a prize fund of £1,000,000.
The Grand National is known for its great popularity in the UK, including with those who do not normally have an interest in horse racing, or sports betting. It has been broadcast live on free-to-air terrestrial television in the UK since 1960, and is watched around the world by an estimated 500 to 600 million people in over 140 countries.
The 2017 Grand National was won by 'One for Arthur' ridden by jockey Derek Fox. The Grand National 2018 will take place on 14th April 2018.
